I was charmed by a fishing boat the appeared to bear the elegantly simple name “Alaskan” when I saw it in Kodiak.
I thought it would make a great splash of color for my Kodiak journal page, but the challenge was two fold. How “tight” on the boat do I get, so I don’t lose the name, and how wide do I stay so I capture the rugged beauty and charm of Kodiak, Alaska.

I have never watched the TV show Deadliest Catch, though I have heard the title, so when someone asked me if I photographed the boat I had to check. This isn’t one of them, and I don’t think we saw any of them, but I am honestly not sure.
I do think what we saw was a great representation of the Alaskan fishing community!

I prompted Gemini AI for the painting and city sticker.

Off the stern (back) of some of the boats we saw were Sea Lions swimming around, clearly hoping for fish scraps. I decided to make a version of the sticker reflecting that.

And a sticker for Kodiak, Alaska. As I recall, they say there are more bears than people on Kodiak.
